HOUSEHOLDERS with solar panels can get hundreds of pounds a year.

Clean Energy Cashback will give people 36.5p for every unit of electricity they generate and another 5p for every kilowatt that is fed back into the national grid.

Kirklees Green leader Clr Andrew Cooper welcomed the investment. He said: “This is a very practical way of people using solar energy to provide another source of income while adding value to their house.

“There is also the added benefit that the value of the solar electricity used in the home will rise as energy prices rise.”

Clean Energy Cashback, which begins in April, will be worth an average of £700 a year to householders. It will run for 25 years, bringing in £17,500.

Solar panels can cost about £10,000 for installation and last up to 40 years.
