CUTS to services for older people were discussed at the latest meeting of a pensioners’ group.

The Huddersfield and District Pensioners’ Organisation hosted the quarterly meeting of the Yorkshire and Humber Pensioners’ Convention at their last meeting.

Their guest speaker, Bill Rollinson, of Care and Repair, outlined how the government cuts would mean reduced staffing levels and therefore impact on the services they depend on.

He also spoke about the help available to home owners and informed them of the latest savings advice.

The meeting discussed the future of wardens in sheltered housing after a Doncaster housing scheme ceased using wardens. They agreed a resolution on the matter to the National Pensioners’ Convention (NPC) biennial conference in March.

Members also agreed to support the joint Trades Union Congress and NPC rally in March against the change from Retail Prices Index to the consumer prices index for all future pension increases.

The group’s next meeting is on Thursday at St Patrick’s Community Centre, from 1pm until 3pm. Admission is £2.
