TWO Huddersfield dog owners have been fined for letting their dogs stray.

Tracy Sykes of Hulbert Croft, Almondbury, was found guilty at Huddersfield Magistrates Court of not keeping her dog on a lead on six occasions.

She was fined £50 for the first offence plus a victim surcharge of £15 and £443.12 costs.

She did not attend court.

Sante Burns, of Holays, Dalton, also did not attend the hearing at Huddersfield Magistrates, but was found guilty in her absence of not keeping her dog on a lead or providing the required identification on the dog on two occasions. She was fined £100 – £50 for each offence – and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15 plus £200 costs.

Free dog micro-chipping events will be taking place across Kirklees during the summer.

This allows straying dogs to be quickly identified and returned to their owners.
