A Huddersfield firm has shut down after more than 30 years.

Eldon Electricals, which sold domestic appliances such as cookers and washing machines from premises at Longroyd Bridge, has confirmed it has ceased trading.

Customers found the Manchester Road premises locked up and in darkness.

And callers to the firm were given a message which confirmed the firm had ceased trading.

The firm had started life in Newsome Mills, Newsome, carrying out repairs on appliances but then moved into retailing.

It is not known how many jobs are affected by the sudden shutdown but there were more than a dozen staff working for the firm at the shop and in workshops in Longwood and Milnsbridge.

Eldon Electricals was formed in the early 1980sas a domestic appliance repairer in Huddersfield, moving into the now-derelict Newsome Mills in 1985.

In 2003, the firm moved nto the former St Martin’s Catholic Centre in Longroyd Bridge and opened a showroom. The premises were opened by the owner, Mr Ulfat Sattar, and the then Mayor, Margaret Bates.

Now the shutters are down at the premises and the website is down.

Callers to the firm are answered by a message which says: “Eldon Electricals would like to thank all our customers for their support over the past 25 years.

“It is with regret that we have now ceased trading.

“Customers with warranty questions should contact the manufacturers direct”.
