A HUDDERSFIELD family have become the first people in West Yorkshire to win big with the People’s Postcode Lottery, scooping a cheque for £25,000.

Player Sakina Bibi is also the fastest People’s Postcode Lottery winner ever – she won the top weekly prize in just her second week of playing.

Sakina, 55, who won with her postcode HD4 5EB at McArthur Street, Primrose Hill, was overwhelmed and almost lost for words when the prize team turned up on her doorstep.

Her daughter Iqra, 19, said: “This is a great day for us! It’s almost unbelievable – it’s such a lot of money!”

The family said the cash will be really handy for Iqra, who goes to university later this year to study media, and for Sakina’s older daughter Tahira, 24, who is studying accountancy.

Iqra said: “Mum was saying she wished we could win the lottery to help us all, and I said that would never happen. But I think someone must have been listening and made our wishes come true!”

The Bibis moved from Pakistan to live in Huddersfield seven years ago, but now they’re on the move again to be with relatives, and hopefully continue the girls’ education.

The People’s Postcode Lottery is a charity subscription lottery running in the North East and Yorkshire. Each week, players whose postcode comes up in the draw win a share of £25,000, and players matching part of the winning postcode receive cash prizes too.

So far the lottery has raised over £1.7 million for charities including the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.
