FIRE crews had to tackle a spate of fires in the open.

Yesterday Hud-dersfield firefighters were called to deal with three fires started by people burning rubbish.

At 5pm yesterday they were called to Ash Meadow Close, Sheepridge, where a resident had been burning rubbish.

Watch manager Pete Rushby said such incidents tend to increase after the clocks go forward.

“Our advice is not to burn rubbish, it should be disposed of correctly by taking it to the local authority recycling centre.

“We were called out to a few yesterday all for the same thing. Someone started a fire in the open to burn some rubbish.

“Now the nights are lighter for longer people have more time to try and do it themselves, which they shouldn’t.”
