A HUDDERSFIELD firm has backed an appeal to help deaf people.

The Hearing Company, based at Scrivens Opticians at Cloth Hall Street, is embarking on a fund-raising drive designed to help deaf people.

The local hearing care retailer has pledged to donate £25 for every hearing aid sold during Deaf Awareness Week next week to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

The charity selects and trains dogs to respond to specific sounds, alerting deaf people by touch of paw and leading them back to the sound source.

Since 1982, it has placed more than 1,500 hearing dogs.
