HE’S one of the heroes of the Ashes.

And workers at a Huddersfield-based firm had special reasons to cheer on England’s cricketers to their historic win in Australia.

For Yorkshire all-rounder Tim Bresnan – who helped seal victory in the final test at Sydney with vital wickets and useful runs – was also providing worldwide publicity for paving manufacturer Marshalls.

The Pontefract-born player had a Marshalls logo emblazoned on his bat – which was regularly picked up in close-up by the television stump cameras when Bresnan was at the crease.

The sponsorship deal between Marshalls and the 25-year-old Bresnan came after the company provided building products for his house near Barnsley.

The company “struck a deal” to have the Marshalls name on Bresnan’s bat when he played for England in T20 and one-day internationals last summer.

Now the firm has enjoyed exposure in test cricket’s greatest competition – with Bresnan taking his place in the record books as part of the first England side in 24 years to win the Ashes in Australia.

A spokeswoman for Marshalls said: “Marshalls is delighted to have been a part of supporting Tim Bresnan and the England cricket team on their recent excellent Ashes victory. It was with great pride that we saw the Marshalls logo proudly displayed on the bat which helped secure this magnificent win.”

Bresnan made his test debut for England in 2009 against West Indies at Lords and his also featured in the T20 and one-day sides.

During the victorious Ashes campaign, he was called in to the England side for the Melbourne Test, where he bagged six wickets.

He added to his tally at Sydney as well as making 35 in support of century-maker Matt Prior.
