Organisers are putting the finishing touches to a Huddersfield tradition.

They are planning the 15th Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival which will be held in St George’s Square from August 6 to 9.

And the new team behind the event are planning some fringe events, including a mini festival on The Piazza this weekend to give people a flavour of thew main event.

There will also be the Taste Trail and a Real Ale and Cocktail Trail.

The festival will attract dozens of stalls ranging from award-winning ice cream from Yummy Yorkshire to jamming jerk pork pies from Barrington’s Deli.

The Huddersfield Food and Drink Festival is the largest free event of its kind, attracting in the region of 100,000 visitors in 2014.

The emphasis will again be on local and regional traders , promoting the Yorkshire gems of the food industry as well as supporting local entrepreneurs, just starting out on the road of business.

A new team took over the reins in 2014, with event co-ordinator Hayley MacDonald and partnership manager, Karen Hobson seeking to build on the success of the festival.

Karen who heads up Huddersfield Partnership that organise and deliver the event said; “Hudds Food Fest is a great event for the town and we look forward to the excitement surrounding the event and its encompassing activities. From its small beginnings, the festival has grown exponentially over the last few years which has been valuable in promoting Huddersfield as a appealing destination to visit and explore.

“We are mindful that the perception is that Hudds Food Fest is a council run event. However, the Partnership is an independent and not for profit organisation which is tasked to support our town through a range of initiatives to support local businesses and increase the vibrancy and vitally of the town. If it were not for the marvellous sponsorship support we receive from John Smiths Stadium & Heineken and other local businesses we would be unable to deliver such a great event for the town”.

The “Taste of Things to Come” mini festival will be at The Piazza on July 3 and 4, showcasing what’s in store ahead of the big day.

The main festival will include an impressive line-up of free cookery demonstrations, managed by Jamie’s Ministry of Food with some amazing guests. and The Food Avenue, bringing a little bit of VIP to the festival.

And it will be followed by the first Huddersfield Food and Drink Awards to be held on September 17 at the John Smiths Stadium.
