MEN across Huddersfield have started growing moustaches for the world’s biggest men’s health fundraising event.

Staff at Sash Windows, Lockwood, have started growing moustaches to raise cash for Movember.

Movember, a portmanteau of ‘moustache’ and ‘November’, encourages men to grow moustaches during November to raise cash for men’s health charities and raise awareness about men’s health issues.

Managers Craig Bedford and Jason Dickinson will be growing ‘trucker’ and ‘connoisseur’ moustaches.

Meanwhile, sales director Keith Cosgrove and insulation engineer Sean Forster will be growing ‘rock star’ and ‘undercover brother’ taches.

The four, called ‘Sash Windows Mo Bros’ will be pictured every Thursday to record their growing progress.

The team has so far raised £600 and was yesterday ranked 72 out of 11,792 Movember teams in the UK in terms of how much money they are raising.

Sash Windows decided to raise cash for Movember after discovering an employee’s relative was undergoing treatment for prostate cancer.

Also growing a moustache for a second Movember is Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney.

Mr McCartney will be raising funds as part of ‘Team Foz Bar’, a team of 14 from his local pub, The Foresters Arms, in Honley.

Movember began in Melbourne, Australia in 2004 where a handful of men raised approximately £21,600.

Last year Movember had over 850,000 registered participants raising £79.3m.

The annual event aims to raise awareness about men’s health issues, including prostate and testicular cancer.

All Movember funds raised in the UK are directed to programmes run by Movember and its men’s health partners, Prostate Cancer UK and the Institute of Cancer Research.

Participating celebrities last year included football hardman Joey Barton, comedian Jason Manford and actor and author Stephen Fry.

Participants must begin the month clean shaven and take photos at the beginning and the end of the month.

Mo Sistas are women that support Movember by sponsoring men taking part or by organising Movember events.
