A TRIBUTE concert to popular musician and charity fundraiser Carlton Mellor is planned for later this month.

It will take place at Holmbridge Parish Hall, on Sunday, January 27, from 4pm to 6pm.

The ‘Ballads, Songs and Snatches’ concert is hosted by Huddersfield Gilbert and Sullivan Society (HGSS), of which Mr Mellor was a member.

Mr Mellor, 74, died while playing the drum for Honley Brass Band during a brass band procession at Holmfirth in 2011.

The concert, which will include many of Mr Mellor’s favourite tunes, will raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Mr Mellor raised £500,000 for Macmillan as chairman of the charity’s Holmfirth Fundraising Committee for more than 20 years and as a committee member for Holmfirth Art Week.

Jude Faulkner, Macmillan Holmfirth committee member, said: “Carlton not only put great energy into his fundraising and his music, he also inspired many others to follow his example.

“As well as the concert on stage, there will be plenty of happy stories told of his varied escapades.

“These may include legendary daredevil bungee and parachute jump fundraising stunts, alongside tales of his many adventures on stage.”

Tickets, which costs £7, are available from Holmfirth Tourist Information Office.
