HUDDERSFIELD Grammar school has won the English Schools Swimming Association’s Dolphin Gold Award.

The school achieved 100% results by children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6 for swimming 25 metres or more.

Some 2,500 schools nationwide competed for the accolade and Huddersfield Grammar was the only school in the country to reach this level.

The trophy and prizes were presented at the school by Katie Venters, Greenhead College student and gold medallist in the 200m backstroke at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Katie swims 60km a week and is part of the target team for the London 2012 Olympics.

Jacob Lindley, a pupil at Huddersfield Grammar School, said: “I am really proud that our school has won this award and it was great to meet Katie and hear about the Commonwealth Games in India.

“I’m amazed how much swimming she does every day.”
