Pennines bands ruled the roost at the prestigious Pure Rawk Awards.

Huddersfield and Halifax outfits stole the show when they won nine of the 15 categories at the annual rock n roll ceremony at the Boston Music Room in London.

Eureka Machines, Scaramanga Six, Tropical Contact and Parish promoter Mikey Baird were all big winners on the night, which is entered by hundreds of alternative rock, punk and metal bands each year.

The most gongs, which are given out based on public votes, went to four-piece Eureka Machines, made up of former Huddersfield musicians and signed to Huddersfield-based Wrath Records.

They scooped best band, best front person with Chris Catalyst , best bassist with Pete Hulme and best drummer, which was won by Wayne Insane.

The accolades have cemented their success over the last year, which saw them head out on several tours and gain several festival slots, including the renowned Sonisphere Festival.

Chris, said: “We are just over-joyed.

“It was a really fantastic night and a great celebration of independent and underground music across the UK.

“Thanks to Nix at PR, and everyone who took the time to cast a vote.

“The public made this happen, and we are, as ever, at your service.”

Self-defined ‘evil’ pop-rock group Scaramanga Six, who are behind Wrath Records, won two trophies, with Paul Morricone winning Axe Hero and their song, I Will Crush Your Heart winning best video.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield-based rockers Tropical Contact came top in New Breed category, while The Parish’s promoter, Mikey Baird, won the gong for Best Promoter.

In the past year he has brought cult national and international bands such as The Bronx, Jaya the Cat and SNOT to the intimate venue on Kirkgate.

He said: “Thank you so much everyone –I’m still so, so stoked.

“It was an amazing night for underground music and for Yorkshire bands.”
