A SERIES of talks and exhibitions is planned over two Local History Months.

The events, through May and June, have been put together by Kirklees Library and Information Centres and Museums.

They have joined forces with the University of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Archive Service and the Huddersfield Local History Society to bring together a rich and varied programme.

Revisit a bygone age of piers, proms and pleasure beaches at the Secrets of the Saucy Postcards exhibition at Bagshaw Museum, Batley, from May 1 to September 30.

Another exhibition, at the Tolson Museum, Moldgreen, from May 1 to December 30, depicts 150 years of David Brown engineers in Huddersfield.

Howard Robinson will bring back memories of washday with an illustrated talk at the Local History Lunchtime Club at Huddersfield Library on May 12.

Nicholas Pollett will be introducing the work of the Marsden History Group at Huddersfield Town Hall on May 17.

For those who like exercise with their history, Frank Grombir will lead a walk around Huddersfield town centre on May 21, looking at how the Polish community have contributed to its cultural, social, religious and economic life.

And the Tolson and Bagshaw museums will be taking part in the Museums By Night scheme.
