HUDDERSFIELD’S hospital trust is up for three awards.

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust has been shortlisted in three categories at the finals of the 2009 NHS Health and Social Care Awards.

The hospital is nominated for the most improved acute trust award for its good MRSA rates and success in partnership for its learning disability steering group.

The histology team is also up for an adopt, adapt and improve award after devising new ways of working in the laboratories to make sure patients get their test results quicker.

Trust board chairman Sukhdev Sharma said: “It is great to see the dedication and initiative of our staff has been recognised at this top event for Yorkshire.

“To have been shortlisted three times in the finals is a great achievement.”

The Health and Social Care Awards are run as a partnership between the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement and the Department of Health.

They highlight and celebrate innovation achievements in healthcare.

The Yorkshire award finals will be held at Sheffield City Hall on May 28.

Accident & Emergency consultant Andy Lockey won the local hero award last year after being voted by the public.
