Huddersfield basked in temperatures akin to the Med holiday hotspots.

And the good news for many, after the warmest day of the year so far, is that the heatwave will continue.

It may drop a little cooler over the weekend but more good weather is on the way for next week and into August.

Huddersfield weather expert Paul Stevens logged temperatures of 28°Celsius (82°F) yesterday in the town centre, which was just above the previous best recorded on Wednesday.

The sunshine was also welcomed with blue skies and a gentle breeze.

It brought out many people into the parks and gardens, especially Greenhead Park.

Those enjoying the sunshine were revelling in the same conditions as Benidorm and Corfu, while people who had flown out to Portugal’s Algarve or to the south of France have had cooler weather.

Mr Stevens said: “The temperatures have risen steadily this week and we reached 28° yesterday, slightly up on Wednesday.

“It was certainly the warmest day of the year so far and it’s a sign that the second half of the summer, as we forecast, is going to be a lot better than the first.

“We have had several days of hot and dry weather and that looks likely to continue.

“It should be the same today and although the weekend and early part of next week may drop a little cooler and cloudier, the warm humid weather will be back.

“As we head into August it looks like high pressure will again dominate and that should set ups up for a good month with long spells of hot and dry weather”.

It may be different in other parts of the UK.

Weather forecasters have suggested the weather looks more mixed as the current easterly wind changes to a westerly coming off the Atlantic.

They say next week looks like a more typical summer week, with nice days but also a bit of rain around from time to time as well.
