A MUM is fuming after KFC staff refused to warm up a bottle of milk for her hungry baby.
Staff at the Leeds Road branch offered Anna Roberts a cup of hot water – but only if she paid 90p.
The fried chicken chain said it couldn’t warm the milk for free because of health and safety concerns.
But the mum-of-seven has slammed the policy as ludicrous and vowed never to set foot in the restaurant again.
She said: “I was absolutely gobsmacked with the attitude.
“To say that the only way I can warm up my baby’s milk is by paying for a cup of water is just ridiculous.”
Anna, from Shelley, had been enjoying a day out with her seven children when she visited the chain.
They had played a game of ten pin bowling at Superbowl and then popped into the nearby KFC for their tea.
Full-time mum Anna, 34, ordered a bargain bucket with extra chicken and chips which came to a total of £23.
When the family sat down to tuck in her seven-month-old son Kai woke up and wanted to be fed.
Anna asked for help warming up a cold bottle of milk but was shocked by the member of staff’s response.
She said: “Kai was crying wanting his dinner and I went over to the counter and asked if they could warm up his bottle for him.
“A member of staff looked at me vaguely and said that they couldn’t warm bottles up there.
“I then asked if I could just have a cup of hot water. But she said that the only way she could do this was if I paid 90p for a cup of tea – and then took the tea bag out to use the water.
“I was quite shocked that they expected me to pay for water and there was no way I was going to this.
“My baby was crying and we all had to rush our dinner to leave and go and feed him.”
The family went back to the bowling alley where staff at a fast food outlet there were happy to warm up Kai’s bottle.
Anna said: “We’ve been to this KFC a few times and always spend over £20 as we’re a big family. It’s quite a lot of money so it’s a bit of a treat for the children.
“We’d had an enjoyable day but this ruined it as we had to go – we left half of our chicken.
“I have been to other burger chains and they have been fine warming up bottles. KFC is supposed to be family-friendly but wouldn’t help me.
“If you go out for a family day you’re not going to carry round warm bottles with you and I’m not going to give my baby a cold bottle because he would get an upset stomach”.
A spokesperson for KFC said: “Unfortunately, like lots of other restaurants, we do not provide hot water for heating bottles because of health and safety concerns.
“This policy is clearly visible on a poster in the restaurant lobby and whilst we appreciate how frustrating it can be, we hope that customers understand the reason behind this policy”.
