A campaign is under way in Huddersfield - to revive the art of knitting.

It’s the brainchild of Knit One Purl One, a knitting group formed in the town just 12 months ago.

They have been meeting weekly in Paddock to knit squares for blankets for elderly and homeless people.

But they now want to widen the appeal of knitting and would love to see it brought into local schools, with children encouraged to pick up their knitting needles.

Carole Garwood, who started the group with Denise Davies, said: “We got to know each other through the Jubilee Church at Paddock and set up the weekly sessions.

“We knit squares to be made into blankets and have handed out many to the elderly and the homeless.

“We want to get others involved and would love to see children in schools learn knitting, as they used to many years ago.

“It’s a very social thing as we knit and natter, and anyone is welcome to come and join us”.

The group meets each Friday at the Paddock church between 12pm and 3pm.
