Huddersfield is one of the luckiest towns in the country after two people won the daily prize of £1,000 in the People’s Postcode Lottery in nine days.

Gas engineer and father-of-six Aurangzeb Hussain 43, won after his Bradley address of HD2 1QN, was drawn.

This follows the lucky Lowerhouses lady, 32-year-old Latoya Lambert, who won the Daily Prize last week after her postcode, HD5 8LD, was drawn on September 9.

People’s Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt said: “It’s always so exciting when multiple postcodes in the same area win in a short space of time.

“Huddersfield must be one of the luckiest towns in Britain as it has been drawn twice in just nine days.”

Latoya, a mother-of-two who works as a cleaner at Huddersfield University and as a care assistant, said: “I couldn’t stop screaming when I got the phone call telling me I had won.

“The money will pay a few bills and I’ll treat my 15-year-old daughter Brianna who is a pupil at Honley High School. I think it was in January/February time when I decided to start buying the tickets.”

Aurangzeb, said “Eid is coming up soon so I guess I will be treating the wife and the kids to a few presents.”

He said he decided to start playing after seeing the TV advertising: ‘Don’t miss out, if you are not in you can’t win it’ slogans.

One local project to receive funding this year from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant giving trust funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, is Home-Start Kirklees who applied for £3,284 for their Volunteer Training programme.
