AN extravaganza of enchanting entertainment is being planned to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Huddersfield Circle of Magicians.

The Circle is hosting a day of magic and entertainment on June 27 at the Lawrence Batley Theatre to mark its big occasion.

During the day, there will be free shows from some of the UK’s top Children’s entertainers along with Punch and Judy shows, clowns, jugglers, fire eaters and street entertainers.

All the entertainment will be rounded off in the evening with an Anniversary Spectacular at the LBT, which will be compered by Huddersfield comedian Al Conway.

The Huddersfield Circle of Magicians was founded by Frank Cooper, L Preston, Rob Ward, Maurice Taylor, E J Rowland, D Booth, A Shaw, R Walker, B Oldroyd, J A Wilde, D A Martell, M S Rigby and E O Selby.

Members of the group are hoping that any original members or their relatives will be able to attend the 60th anniversary celebrations.

Entertainers on the day will include internationally-renowned illusionist John Archer, who is a comedy magician and the Magic Circle’s current Stage Magician of the Year.

Also performing will be Brian Sefton, who specialises in magic with doves, ventriloquist Dave Andrews, singer John Danbury, The Bernie Heys Dancers from Huddersfield and Kirkheaton School Choir.

Also on the bill will be High Jinx – Scapegoat Hill brother and sister magic duo Michael and Siobhan Jordan.

The teenage pair are rising stars in the world of magic and are currently the British Ring Champions of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Michael is the magic expert, while Siobhan has a drama background.

But together they have developed a successful stage act, which has won them a series of titles and taken them around the world.

Last summer, they toured with TV presenter and magician Stephen Mulhern.

Michael, 17, is the 2009 North of England close-up magic champion and has been a finalist in the 2009 European Close-Up Championships.

He was the youngest ever competitor to take part. He is also competing the 2009 Magic Circle Young Magician of the Year competition.

High Jinx will perform at Buxton Fringe Festival in July and at a summer variety show hosted by Marsden drama group Avalanche Dodgers.

Michael and Siobhan will also appear with children’s TV character Sooty at the International Brotherhood of Magicians’ children’s show in Southport later this year.
