A MAN has slammed Kirklees Council’s gritting strategy after a spate of snow-related accidents.

Edgerton resident David Peace says three cars slid into each other near his home on Hungerford Road yesterday despite his efforts to warn motorists of the slippery conditions.

The road, which links the A629 Halifax Road with Marsh, is not gritted by the council but the adjacent Thornhill Road is.

Mr Peace, 68, says he has been campaigning for the road to be gritted for years but has been repeatedly ignored by councillors and Highways officers.

A Kirklees Highways spokesman said: “A full grit of the priority network was carried out on Friday morning in response to forecasts of snow. This represents over 700 miles of road.”
