A MAN has appeared in court accused of raping a woman as she walked her dog in a Huddersfield park.

Oliver Carr, 21, of Eldon Royd Court, Eldon Road, Marsh, made a brief appearance before Kirklees magistrates.

The Huddersfield bench was told that the alleged incident happened at Greenhead Park on July 27.

Vanessa Schofield, prosecuting, said the victim was alone walking her dog through the park at 9.30pm.

She said that the 51-year-old woman was attacked and was helped by other park users after she screamed.

Carr did not enter a plea at the hearing.

The court was told that Carr’s case would be sent to Leeds Crown Court.

Magistrates remanded Carr in custody.

His first appearance before the crown court will be on August 6.
