A SON accused of stabbing his mother to death three days after her 58th birthday appeared at the Old Bailey.

Jermaine Gilchrist, 34, allegedly killed Beryl Gilchrist at her home in Croydon, south London, on June 24 this year.

Her dead body was found at the house in Miller Road at around 8pm following reports of an argument.

Jermaine Gilchrist, of North Street, Lockwood, Huddersfield, is charged with her murder.

He appeared in court by video link from prison for a bail hearing.

No bail application was made and he was remanded into custody.

He will next appear in court for a plea and case management hearing on August 25.

Mrs Gilchrist, known locally as Nazarine Esther Deborah Samuel, was pastor at a church called Nazarine Samuel Ministries Elelyon The House of Prayer for All Nations.

It is believed she had recently been discharged from hospital after beating cancer.
