TALK about rushing to make your flight on time.

One man from Huddersfield has just 16 days to cycle more than 1,800 miles to Gibraltar – or else he’ll miss his flight back home.

Andy Fallon, 43, is making the daunting trip to raise money for Cancer Research.

But he has added an extra dimension to the challenge by booking his flight home in advance.

Andy, who is a manager at Morrisons supermarket in Penistone Road, Waterloo, said: “It’s going to be a challenge but I think I can do it as long as I get some miles in early while it’s flat.

“I’m just going to cycle as far as I can until I think I’ve had enough for the day and then I’ll stop for the night.”

Andy has already planned out his route to the British overseas territory off Spain.

He said: “I’m going to be sticking to A and B roads.

“I’m going the scenic route through the UK down to Folkestone in Kent and then I’ll get the train to Calais in France and I’ll set off again from there.

“I’ll go through France and down, then over the Pyrenees and into Spain.

“I’ll go past Madrid and all the way down to the Strait of Gibraltar.”

Father-of-one Andy will be taking a backpack of provisions and a tent and will be making the long journey alone and unaided.

He wants to raise over £1,000 for Cancer Research in tribute to his grandmother and father-in-law who both had cancer.

He said: “This is no easy ride, being just short of 2,000 miles, and with my current training for this Big Cycle being odd bits of training here and there, it really will be a challenge to complete this mammoth cycle in just 16 days.

“I have chosen to support my employer’s Charity of the Year – Cancer Research because at some stage in life we will know someone who has had cancer.

“I will be posting updates on Facebook (Andy Fallon) and Twitter (MadHeadCyclist) to update you on my progress throughout the ride.”
