HUDDERSFIELD MP Barry Sheerman wants any inquiry into the public disorder to examine social media.
The MP is concerned that apparent use of Facebook and texting sites helped encourage people to get involved in disturbances.
Mr Sheerman, who flew back from a family holiday in Majorca to join yesterday’s specially-recalled Parliament, described the disorder as “crazy” and questioned the motives of many of those involved.
He made his plea to David Cameron during a often-heated Commons debate.
“I asked the Prime Minister for a proper inquiry into the problems. We don’t want something that drags on for months, just a sensible short examination of what has gone on.
“There are too many ‘experts’ pontificating about the causes. We want to get into the communities and ask the people who have been affected what it means to them."
