A MARATHON is set to take place in the Galpharm swimming pool and the organisers want people to join them.

The Huddersfield Otters Water Polo club will host a 12-hour mega match in the pool from 7pm on Saturday August 25 until 7am the next day.

And they want former members to join them in the pool and hopefully break a world record.

Steve Berry, of the Otters, said: “With the Olympics on we wanted to raise the profile of water polo and do something a bit different.

“We’ll be raising money for the club and the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice too with people guessing how many goals will be scored in the 12 hours.

“And we’re in touch with the Guinness World Records and hoping to break a world record in the event.”

The water polo mega marathon match is open to people of all ages and the club’s own members will be playing, including some of the veterans aged in their 80s. Men and women can take part.

Steve added: “Water polo is a great sport to take part in and it’s good exercise too.

“I started when I was nine and I’m 45 now, there’s great team spirit and you do feel like you’ve had a good work out after a game.”

Kirklees Active Leisure have allowed them free use of the pool overnight. To get involved contact Steve Berry on 07810 208 459 or Paul Bentley on 07891 786 342.
