A PLAN to bring an abandoned filling station at Lepton back into use has been given the green light.

But the applicant’s hopes to open 24 hours-a-day have been blocked.

The old BP garage on Wakefield Road, Lepton, has been unused for many years.

Now a proposal to re-open the petrol station and build a new convenience store has been approved.

The initial plan was for a 24 hour mini-market but Kirklees planners have agreed to let the store open from 6am to 10pm.

The old building is set to be demolished and a new canopy for the three petrol pumps will be erected.

The facility could offer up to eight full-time and 10 part-time jobs.

The application has come from Bradford businessman Tariq Nazir.

He has said the plan is not on behalf of any of the major supermarket chains.
