Huddersfield racing legend James Whitham is bursting with pride after watching best mate Carl 'Foggy' Fogarty crowned King of the Jungle.

Foggy, a four-time World Superbike Champion, beat X Factor contestant Jake Quickenden to win this year's series of ITV reality show I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

Shocked at the result, he said: "I just think it's all a dream. I think someone's playing a joke on me!"

Back home, James has been glued to the screen since Foggy flew out to brave the horrors of the jungle, enduring a restricted diet of rice and beans, dealing with creepy crawlies and taking on hair-raising Bushtucker Trials for three weeks.

He said: "I'm really, really pleased he won. I'm proud of him!

"The best thing for me, and his other mates, is that he was exactly himself out there, he didn't put any act on.

"He's a nice bloke, he's got a heart of gold and he's hard working.

"He's a proper A-lister now!"

James suspected Jake Quickenden would win the show but said Foggy had had plenty of support from the motorcycling community.

James also posted a video plea asking for people to save Foggy from eviction and called in to vote for him on the show.

"It's a big show, there's 10 million people watching, it's a huge deal," he added. "I don't think he could believe it."

"We're going to celebrate with him when he gets home."

Carl Fogarty, considered one of the best Superbike racers of all time, was awarded an honorary law degree from the University of Huddersfield in 2006.

He and James Whitham have toured together to talk to fans about their racing careers and James hosts The Superbike Show on Loaded TV.
