A BROKEN down freight train caused disruption to Huddersfield rail services yesterday afternoon.

Northern Rail and First TransPennine Express services were affected from around 1.30pm blocking the route between Huddersfield and Stalybridge.

Buses were provided by Northern Rail to transport passengers between the two stations.

While some First TransPennine Express services had to be diverted to not call at Huddersfield.

Journeys were delayed by up to 30 minutes.

The freight train was eventually moved and services resumed by 4pm.
