A MAN has raised money to help find a cure for the disease which killed his girlfriend’s father.

Muhei-ud-din Muftee, 27, ran from his home on Redwood Drive in Bradley and back again in aid of Ataxia UK. The sponsored seven-mile run raised £370 for the charity. Mr Muftee’s girlfriend Katrina Pickard’s father Sam died of Ataxia earlier this year.

Mr Muftee said: “It’s a disorder of the nervous system which spreads through the body. People with Ataxia end up losing feeling in their arms, then their legs, then their face. They lose their speech and eyesight before they die. It can take nine or 10 years.

“It’s a really bad disorder and there’s not much research going in to a cure.”

Mr Muftee, who is manager of Moving Properties in Birchencliffe, plans to organise a series of sponsored events for the charity.

He said: “I have another run planned for two months’ time and I hope to get at least 20 people involved. The event will include boxing and swimming as well.”
