SAMARITANS volunteers from Huddersfield are among those who took to the wheel to raise awareness of the cause.

Huddersfield branch director Loretta took her turn in the charity’s iconic green Smart Car, which is touring the country for two weeks.

The car will be visiting more than 175 Samaritans’ branches, covering almost 5,000 miles during its road trip.

It will be driven by MPs, mayors, celebrity supporters and Samaritans’

volunteers as part of a move to promote its work.

Loretta drove the car to Rochdale as part of the tour.

She said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to raise awareness of the Samaritans’ service and its 24 hour availability.

“Our vision is that fewer people should die by

suicide and we aim to achieve this vision by alleviating emotional distress.”
