SLIMMERS in Huddersfield are joining a campaign to raise awareness of the growing obesity crisis in the area.
They are backing Slimming World’s national ‘Let’s Beat It Together’ push to spread the word about the impact of obesity on today’s society, and to help more local people live a healthier lifestyle.
Lynda Thwaites, team manager, says: “Obesity levels in Huddersfield are at an all time high, with 9.6% of children and young people overweight and 21.6% of adults.
“Early deaths from heart disease and stroke are running at 95.2% (UK average 84.2%). Being overweight isn’t just about how you look – it affects people’s lives! It saps their self-esteem and their confidence and it’s a very real health threat”.
Slimming World has now launched the ‘Let’s Beat It Together’ campaign.
Mrs Thwaites said: “The Government is running a campaign to raise awareness, but it takes more than a TV advert to help people change – they need real support and advice on healthy eating, which they get at Slimming World.”
