IT was full steam ahead as engineers showed their road, rail and boating skills.

The Huddersfield Society of Model Engineers staged an open day at their base in Highfields. The club dates back to the mid 1950s and also runs the railway at Greenhead Park which is now undergoing a massive restoration project.

Model enthusiasts got the chance to have a look at displays of boats, locomotives and a newly-built road system for radio-controlled HGVs.

There were also boat racing competitions on the lake.

President Michael Day said: “People enjoy coming along because what we do is different and interesting.

“We’re also attracting younger members and, hopefully they will grow up with us and support the club.”
