A solicitor from Huddersfield will pound the streets of the capital in aid of her ill mum.

Motivated by her mother’s long term battle with arthritis, 36-year-old Satpal Sharma is running the Virgin Money London Marathon in aid of Arthritis Research UK.

Satpal’s mother Dalip Roth has lived with osteoarthritis for many years, including undergoing a knee replacement as a result.

Dalip’s condition affects many things in her day to day life, stopping her doing the things she loves.

The pain in her joints has reduced her to using a walking stick and she has to take painkillers daily.

Despite being a mother to two year old daughter Mia and running two practices as a solicitor, Satpal has found the time to train four times a week in preparation for race on Sunday.

Satpal is passionate about raising money for a cause close to her heart, and encourages others to fundraise too.

She said: “My mother’s strength is my motivation.

“Despite being in pain and struggling to walk, she never lets it get her down and still manages to get on with her life.

“She even helps to care for my little girl Mia two days per week.

“It is essential that we come together to raise more awareness of this condition and that more research is done to try and find a cure.

“Arthritis Research UK fund important research which will help people like my mother, and even me in the future.”

Osteoarthritis affects eight million people in the UK.

Arthritis Research UK funds pioneering research into the treatment, prevention and cure of arthritis.

Liam O’Toole, Chief Executive at Arthritis Research UK, said: “We are thrilled to have so many runners taking part in this year’s Virgin London Marathon and I know that the day will be fantastic experience for us all.

“All of our work is focused on helping to take the pain away from people who have arthritis so that they can remain active, doing the things that they love, and this just wouldn’t be possible without the support of our fundraisers like Satpal. “
