THE public have been offered the chance to have their say on plans for a new sports centre in Huddersfield.

Kirklees Council is taking a roadshow of artist’s impressions and proposed plans for the new sports centre in Huddersfield to a series of public displays.

The display will illustrate how the sports centre could look from the outside and some of the facilities inside the building.

There will also be plans of the proposed layout to see.

The centre is earmarked for a site at Springwood, but the deal hinges on Tesco getting planning permission for a new store on the site of the current centre and there are strong objections.

Clr Mehboob Khan, leader of the council, said: “The proposed new sports centre will offer wonderful modern, quality facilities for the people of Huddersfield as a place for keeping fit and active as well as having fun.

“The display brings to life the look and feel of the facilities to make it real for people.

“The proposals reflect our commitment to encourage everyone to use the facilities as, amongst others, the needs of older people, families with young children and disabled people have been taken into account by the design team.”

The display will be on the reference section floor of Huddersfield Library from next Wednesday until Friday March 26.

Opening hours are Mondays and Tuesdays 9.30am-8pm, Wednesdays 9.30am-5pm, Thursdays and Fridays 9am-8pm and Saturdays 9am-4pm.

The display will then move to Huddersfield Sports Centre from Monday March 29 to Wednesday April 7, before moving to the Stadium Business and Leisure Complex until Friday April 16.
