A heartbroken father has spoken of his agony after his seven-year-old daughter was taken abroad.

Huddersfield student Drew Murray, 28, has been left shattered after his ex-partner cut off his contact with daughter Niamh.

Niamh was taken to Denmark last summer and has been back and forth between there and the USA, with Drew having had no contact.

Now Drew, a journalism student at the University, has set up a GoFundMe page and is appealing to the public for help to raise money for legal fees to help him see her again.

Drew, who also has son Eric, two, with current wife Robyn, 28, said: “My ex told me she was pregnant shortly after we separated.

“It has been an ongoing court battle to see her all through her childhood and I didn’t even meet her until she was 18 months.”

Niamh was taken out of the UK by Drew’s ex-partner in July last year, following her marriage to a US citizen.

They have since moved between New Hampshire and Denmark ever since.

Drew, who lives in Morley, said: “It has been extremely difficult to engage the courts because no-one knows which country’s jurisdiction the case should fall under.

“It’s been very difficult to talk about, I’m just trying to keep going and my son and my wife have been there for me supporting me.

“I have a lot of off days. I just want this to end and to be able to have access to my daughter.”

Niamh was taken to America shortly after Drew’s ex-partner married, with Drew having regular contact through Skype and a visit.

But since July he claims she has been taken away “with no reason” as to why he cannot contact her.

“These fees are just to get the case off the ground”, Drew added.
