TWO students from Huddersfield have won prestigious scholarships.

They are among seven students from the University of Bradford selected to receive the Benjamin Jowett Memorial Scholarship on Thursday,April 2.

Omar Farooq, from Fartown, Huddersfield and Daniel James Roper, from Scissett, are both studying mechanical engineering at the university.

Each of the successful students will be presented with a £5,000 cheque by Jenny Reavil and John Illingworth, two members of the Jowett family.

Benjamin Jowett was Bradford’s only major car manufacturer. His daughter, Marjorie Illingworth set up the scholarship to perpetuate her father’s achievements.

The scholarship supports students on Mechanical & Automotive engineering degree courses, with seven scholarships awarded each year for academic excellence in their undergraduate studies.

The other recipients are Daniel Fazakas, Wai Kwan Jacky Chan, Gaurav Pant, Muhammad Muza Bin Muhayen and Mohamed Omar Abdalla.
