YOUNG dog handlers are on their way to Crufts.

Six Huddersfield teenagers are competing in the world-famous show today.

The young members of Springers Agility Dog Club won a place in the Young Kennel Club Agility Final at Crufts.

The team, who train every week at Birchencliffe Cricket Club, made it to the prestigious event after coming through three qualifiers last year.

Club organiser Tina Shaw said: “It’s an absolutely amazing achievement for them. They have worked really hard to get their dogs up to standard.

“All the dogs are cross-breed mongrels rather than animals which have been bred for their agility.”

The team includes 13-year-old Grace Pollard from Rastrick with her springer/collie cross Dex.

She will be joined by her brother Nick, 16, and his labrador Jess.

Rafi Siraj, 13, of Emley, will also compete today with his 10-year-old corgi/Jack Russell cross, Lucky.

Hannah Clarke, 18, from Elland, is also taking part with her kelty cross Blue.

And Linthwaite 16-year-old Alice Deans, is also in the team with her cocker/springer cross Sammy.
