HUDDERSFIELD TOWN chairman Dean Hoyle will receive an honorary degree this week.

The self-made millionaire is being recognised by Leeds Metropolitan University.

Mr Hoyle will receive a doctorate of business administration at the university’s Headingley campus during a graduation ceremony on Friday.

He is being honoured for his contribution to the business community and his commitment to fundraising and charitable pursuits.

The Wakefield-born man set up the Card Factory in 1997, building up the business until it had 500 shops and more than 5,000 staff.

Mr Hoyle sold the business in 2010 and took over as Town chairman the same year.

He has spearheaded fundraising events for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, leading Town fans on long-distance charity bike rides at the end of each of the last three seasons.

Nine other people will receive an honorary degree from Leeds Met this week, including journalist Martin Wainwright, son of the late former Colne Valley MP Richard Wainwright.
