HUDDERSFIELD TOWN chairman Dean Hoyle is to get on his bike again – to give 1,000 kids a day to remember.

Hoyle is planning to cycle to Wembley for the club’s play-off final.

And there is another good cause behind his efforts and he wants 50 others to join him on his London ride.

Dean, fresh from leading a 260-mile bike ride from Yeovil to Huddersfield, wants to raise £45,000 to pay for 1,000 local children to go to Wembley on Saturday week to see Town take on Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United.

Determined to see Town return to the Championship after an eight-year absence, Dean couldn’t resist the lure of the saddle once more and is sure there will be no shortage of willing volunteers to join him.

“I never wanted to see another bike again after cycling from Yeovil but the pain has worn off,” said Dean. “I guess I must be bonkers!”

The money raised will pay for the cost of travel and a match ticket to give local youngsters a day out they will never forget.

Dean added: “Times are hard so let's do it and raise some cash to bring football to local children who would otherwise have no opportunity to go to the game.

“We did it last year and it was a great day out. It brightened up the lives of the kids.

“It is 17 years since we were last at Wembley so these things don't come often and we want to make it special.

“To organise it and get the cash in will take some doing but it will be worth it.

“That's why it's only open to only 50 people.

“The club has lots of friends, partners and supporters. I hope they all chip in with donations and sponsorship and do their bit for the kids. Every pound helps.”

Up to a maximum of 50 other riders will be able to join Dean with priority given to those who have already been on previous Pedal for Pounds bike rides.

Riders will leave on Wednesday and arrive at Wembley the day before the final. Each rider must aim to raise a minimum of £500.

Anyone interested should email robyn.deegan@htafc.com.

If the ride is over-subscribed the club will select the riders, who will be responsible for their own tickets and travel home.

Anyone wanting to donate should send a cheque, payable to 'Huddersfield Town Foundation Ltd' to Robyn Deegan at the club.

Any firm wanting to sponsor the ride should also contact Robyn.

A cash appeal for last year’s play-off final against Peterborough at Old Trafford paid for 800 children to go to Manchester.
