ASHBROW Labour councillor Jean Calvert has been promoted to Kirklees Council’s ruling nine-strong Cabinet.
Clr Calvert, 56, takes over responsibility for schools and children.
“It’s been a long time coming and I’m looking forward to the new role very much,” she said.
“There’s a lot of changes going on in education at the moment and it will be nice to get stuck in and hopefully help lots of schools.”
The Sheepridge woman takes over from Mary Harkin of Batley, who retired at this month’s council election.
The Labour Cabinet now has six councillors from Huddersfield, two from Batley and one from Heckmondwike.
