IT’S a strange matchday tradition, almost to the point of obsession.

But it has landed Town fan Scott Sweeney a starring role at Wembley for tomorrow’s huge League I play-off final.

Scott, 24, of Cleckheaton, will turn up at Wembley tomorrow to be greeted by a huge banner hanging from the stadium depicting him and his 18-year-old girlfriend Shannon Teal.

Scott won a contest run by npower to come up with a story about what it means to be a fan.

And his winning entry? “I told them about my matchday ritual.

“It’s almost bordering on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder but I have to get to the Galpharm Stadium by cutting through the big retail park car park and touching the plaque marking the centre spot of the old Leeds Road ground.

“I’ve been following Town since I was a small boy thanks to my dad Donald; the last game at Leeds Road against Blackpool was one of my first.

“I’m travelling down to Milton Keynes tomorrow to stay in the same hotel that I used for the play-off semi-final and then going into London on Saturday.

“It will be a shock to see my face on the side of Wembley but I think we’ll win 2-1”.
