HUDDERSFIELD Town fans have appeared in court accused of taking part in a terrifying brawl in Waterloo.

Twelve men and three youths stood before Huddersfield magistrates yesterday charged in connection with the violent clash with Millwall fans before an end of season fixture at the Galpharm on April 16.

The mass brawl saw up to 60 fans fighting with bottles and broken snooker cues outside the Waterloo Tavern pub at Wakefield Road.

Yesterday 12 men and three youths, including a 14-year-old, appeared in court.

Magistrates were told that the two groups were involved in the massive clash outside the pub at around 5pm.

Claire Tripcony, prosecuting, said: “There was a large-scale disorder between the two sides of football fans, instigated by the Town fans that were outside the pub.

“Bottles and snooker cues were being used as weapons.

“There were families outside the pub while this was taking place and people had to turn around their cars to make their escape out of the area to avoid being hit by both sets of fans.”

Gerrard Bradshaw, 36, of Primrose Hill; Kieran Moore, 19, of Almondbury; Andrew Hunt, 25, of Brighouse; Jake Peel, 21, of Longwood; Jeremy McDonald, 43, of Oakes; Conrad Ayscough, 44, of Sheepridge; Danny Melia, 25, of Rastrick; Leon Stephenson, 19, of Taylor Hill; Lee Donaghue, 36, of Dalton; and two youths aged 14 and 17 are charged with violent disorder.

Oliver Dyson, 19, of Almondbury and Andrew Miller, 37, of Sheepridge are charged with both violent disorder and possessing an offensive weapon, allegedly taking snooker cues out of the pub and into the street and using them as weapons.

A 17-year-old, who cannot be named, is charged with affray, having allegedly helped instigate the violence by throwing bottles.

Nicholas Palfreeman, 41, of Dalton, is charged with assisting the offenders.

He allegedly drove some of the Town fans away from the disorder to The Grove pub to avoid detection by police.

None of the men entered pleas and their case will be sent to Bradford Crown Court.

A committal hearing will be held at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court on August 20.

The men were ordered not to contact each other.

Six Millwall fans have already appeared in court charged with violent disorder.

They are due back in court on August 19.
