“WE were lucky but we can still do it.”

That was the view of Town fans after Saturday’s tense first leg of the play-off semi-finals.

Town fans who packed into pubs and clubs to watch the game from Bournemouth admitted Lee Clark’s men were fortunate to head back from the south coast with a 1-1 draw.

But they were are confident they can win the second leg at home at the Galpharm Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Fans in blue and white packed the bars and pubs of Huddersfield on Saturday to watch the League I play-off semi-final

match on Sky TV.

Town went ahead in the 22nd minute when Kevin Kilbane powered in a header from Gary Roberts’ corner.

But Donal McDermott’s second-half equaliser denied Town a lead going into Wednesday’s second leg at the Galpharm.

Richard Brook, 40, a postman from Golcar, was watching the match in Huddersfield town centre. He said afterwards: “I think we were very lucky – Bournemouth played a much better match.

“Town have got to play better in the next match and they will play better.

“They won’t win if they play like that again but if you go on past form they can definitely win it – they’ve just not got to give them as much time on the ball.

“We weren’t sharp at all and we were out-played.”

Matthew Rose, from Holmfirth, added: “It was a lucky result. But the ref did seem to be giving every decision to Bournemouth.”

Wayne Horsfall, 31, a technician from Mirfield, said: “I think we’ve got to be happy with the result especially as we gave a penalty away.

“I hope they play better than that game in the next match – I think we have got to be a bit more positive.

“We were more positive last season when we tried to catch up and we’ve got good enough players.

“A couple of new signings are struggling but we’ve still got a good team and deserve to win.”

Michael Hey, from Ossett, said he thought the Terriers would win the next match against Bournemouth.

He said: “I’m happy with the draw and I was expecting it because it’s away from home with all the away crowd and everything.

“Hopefully we will win the next one and it will take us all the way to Old Trafford.”

The draw extended Town’s unbeaten run to 26 games.

A win on Wednesday will send the side into the play-off final at Old Trafford on Sunday, May 29, against either Peterborough or MK Dons.
