HUDDERSFIELD Town's victory over Bournemouth has inspired confidence in their fans.

And they are predicting a promotion for their team, now they’ve made the League One play-off final.

The Examiner questioned fans on Thursday after Wednesday night's dramatic penalty victory over Bournemouth following extra time.

l Michael Campbell, of Shelley, said: "Getting to the final is an achievement in itself – but it’s only the beginning.

"Huddersfield is an tremendous historic football team.

"I’m from Liverpool and I follow Everton, but because I live in Huddersfield I follow them. I’ve always believed if Shankly had stayed at Huddersfield they would have been one of the top clubs.

"It means a great deal to the town. It will generate a great deal of interest from visiting supporters and put Huddersfield on the map."

l Andy Littlewood, 21, from Golcar, was at The Galpharm for the crunch play-off semi-final and will be travelling to Old Trafford for the final.

"It was quality,’’ he said. "One of the best games I’ve watched – emotionally anyway.

"I’ve been watching them since I was little and Wednesday night was amazing.

"I’m still in a bit of shock now at what happened – it was very dramatic.

"When Bournemouth went 3 – 2 up I’ve never been so worried in my life; but when they equalised I thought they’re definitely going up."

l Tony Haigh, 66, from Fenay Bridge, said he used to be a season-ticket holder but watched Wednesday night’s match and thrilling penalty shoot-out on television.

"I was sat at home in my chair and when they did it I jumped up,’’ he said. "I was very excited about it.

"I was worried when they went 3 – 2 down but I had faith in them – I knew they’d do it.

"I think it’s great. I’m excited about it. I think they’ll do it.

"Now they’ve got to Old Trafford I think they’ll be in the Championship next season.

"I used to go with my dad from when I was 10 and if they go up I’ll definitely start going again.

"It’ll bring more money in but I think they’ll have to sign some better players."

l Life-long Town fan, Ed Bucknall, 55, missed the game but was working near the stadium and said he was thrilled the Terriers had made the final.

"We’ve been in two other play-offs which ended in disaster,’’ he said.

"But this year they’re going to go all the way, back into the Championship and they’re going to do well. I reckon they’ll be fighting for the top places."

l Paul Haigh, 45, from Newsome, said: "It’s good for West Yorkshire football. If we go up we’ll get six points from Leeds again and there’ll be some better teams to play like West Ham, Barnsley and Doncaster."

l Norman McDonald, 43, said promotion would be good for his car park business.

He said: "I was outside working at the car park we have outside the ground but it was good.

"There were a lot of people about and the car park we have was totally over-run with cars.

"It’ll be good for Town’s status if they do go up and they’ll play some better teams so it’ll bring more money into the area."
