GOALKEEPER Ian Bennett is used to saving shots rather than lives.
But along with Jordan Rhodes and Alan Lee, he has just signed the Organ Donation register.
The Town trio’s commitment to the cause is echoed by the entire club as they have dedicated the upcoming Oldham Athletic game to organ donation.
On January 14, supporters who attend the home match will be given a special opportunity to sign up to the register.
Alternatively, they can show their interest by texting a special number.
Bennett said that it was an easy decision for him to show support.
He said: “It’s great that the club is lending its support to such a worthwhile cause and for me it was a complete no-brainer to sign up to the register.
“Supporting the organ donation drive is very important as it can make a massive difference to families.
“As a man with a family, I would urge everyone that can to register their interest.”
Specialist nurse for organ donation for the Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust Jayne Greenhalgh said: “This gives hope to more than 10,000 people of all ages across the UK who need an organ transplant.
“On average, three people a day die before they get a transplant, simply because there are not enough organs available.”
