A MAN threatened to kill a train conductor and teenage passenger, leaving them both shaken after the ordeal.

The train worker intervened when he saw a 17-year-old girl was being verbally abused on the 15.31 Leeds service as it travelled between Huddersfield and Mirfield on Tuesday.

The culprit, a man aged 27- 30, hurled continual abuse and made threats to kill the teenage girl.

When the conductor stepped in he too was verbally abused.

British Transport Police are now appealing for witnesses to help trace the man, who was thrown off the train at Mirfield.

PC Pete Shaw said: “This type of threatening behaviour is totally unacceptable.

“The conductor ejected the suspect from the train at Mirfield, but it is understood he may have been attempting to travel to Ravensthorpe.

“Both victims were left extremely distressed by this man’s behaviour and I would urge anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to contact us.”

Police are looking for a man of oriental appearance, aged between 27-30, who was wearing a black jacket, jeans and white T-shirt.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting incident number 359 of 24/11/2009.
