A train full of passengers made a festive trip to Nottingham to help a Huddersfield charity.

And passengers were joined by a very special guest, Father Christmas.

Santa joined the train to say ‘hello’ to boys and girls and handed out Christmas gifts.

The festive mood was provided by a Christmas singalong with local singers Eileen Wattam and Kirsty Haigh, and Christmas music from Thurlstone Training Band.

The specially chartered train is an annual event organised by community rail group, Penistone Line Partnership, with a different destination each year.

This year passengers joining the train at stations between Huddersfield and Barnsley got to enjoy some Christmas shopping in Nottingham before returning home.

Tickets sell fast each year and the 2013 train has been raising funds for local charity, Ruddi’s Retreat.

The charity aims to help families with seriously ill children to have access to a holiday home free of charge.

Charity representatives were on board, raising additional funds through a raffle, tombola and shop!

Ruddi’s Retreat was set up by Ali Jones, from Linthwaite, after her son, Ruddi, battled cancer as a baby.
