Three people from the Huddersfield area are behind bars after a massive undercover drugs bust.

They were among nine people involved in a million-pound operation across Yorkshire and London who were handed a combined jail term of 79-years and four months.

All were arrested and charged as part of Operation Magical last year, a lengthy covert police investigation into a large scale drugs chain that involved the supply of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine in South and West Yorkshire as well as London.

Raids were carried out across the two counties in March 2014 and resulted in a number of arrests as well as the recovery of 14kg of class A drugs, with a street value of around £1m, and £50,000 in cash.

The gang were sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court and after the case, police vowed to pursue them for criminal assets.

One of the ringleaders was Jonathan McDonald, 38, of Foxcroft Drive, Rastrick, who was found guilty of three counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, namely heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine. He has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Lisa Seymour, 33, of Britannia Crescent, Birkby, Huddersfield, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after she was found guilty of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, namely heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine.

Rushpal Aujla, 34, of Stile Common Road, Newsome, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply class A drugs and was jailed for two years.

Det Sgt Paul Wilson said: “Operation Magical was an investigation designed to target the supply and distribution of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine between organised criminal gangs across South and West Yorkshire as well as London.

“The results are a testament to the dedication and determination of a small group of officers from the Serious and Organised Crime Unit who have worked extensively on this covert investigation over the last two years.

“I hope the sentences offer some reassurance to the vast majority of the law abiding public that we will take action to remove drugs from our streets and we will ensure those involved in this type of criminality are put before the courts, and then behind bars for a considerable amount of time.

“We will now begin to investigate and look to seize any assets those convicted may have gained from their criminality under the Proceeds of Crime Act.”
