A STUDENT was found dead in his Huddersfield University halls of residence.

The teenage boy, believed to be from Wakefield, was found on Friday night.

Kirklees police were called at 5.50pm on Friday to the student flats at Storthes Hall, Kirkburton.

They were told it was a sudden and unexplained death, but investigations have ruled that there was nothing suspicious about the tragedy.

A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We were called at 5.50pm on Friday.

“Huddersfield CID investigated but the death is not suspicious.”

A spokesman for Huddersfield University, said: “Sadly a student at Storthes Hall has passed away. We are giving all the support we can to the family, fellow students and friends.”

Students living at Storthes Hall have posted on a Facebook site expressing their sympathies to the boy.

One said the student died from natural causes.

An inquest has not yet been opened into the boy’s death.
